Default Shed some light please!

Hi All,

we currently have 10s of pages optimised for BlackBerry - covering different keywords. what I dont understand is, how could this site, be ranking as 1 in google for just ONE simple page that hardly has any keywords or content relevant to BlackBerry phones?

http://www.2step-garage.co.uk/blackberry_phone.htm

is it because they have on the right hand side of their page the google ads? is that why they have better ranking?

any comments are welcome.

thanks
T

Well, I think your assumption is not the reason.
Who knows anymore. I had an incredibly relavant site
and I think I'm still in the Google sandbox. See
http://koolfind.com (which needs links to it)

BTW, your 2step-garage site loads incredibly fast.
Nice work.

A lot of things can made one site to be in front of another in the SERP, not only of Google but anyone: obviously content is still and will be the king so as much better content better rank you´ll get but I´ve found that longevity is one of the strongest factors beside backlinks (including be inside the DB of as many search engines as there´s around - even the ones in the shadows!) and traffic.

T, if you look at that site that is #1 you will see they have optomized for one keyword phrase and you for several, and your blackberry kw phrases are way down in your tags and not at all in the title.

They have just out optomized you and presented a concise description to the visiting public.

Just visited your site and cause I have been going through a "source code" phase (seeing how to improve my site etc) I checked out yours and Noticed this is what You have in yours --<title>Blackberry Phone</title> maybe more keywords in here and also I was advised end your "title" with your "dot com name" and maybe more keywords in your <meta name="keywords"
Content="blackberry, pda, mobile, phone, blackberry phone,">
<meta name="description"
Content="Blackberry Phone - Information"> (as mentioned previously...hopefully this is of little help

<title>Blackberry Phone</title>
<meta name="keywords"
Content="blackberry, pda, mobile, phone, blackberry phone,">
<meta name="description"
Content="Blackberry Phone - Information">

This site page is focus on Blackberry Phone with the above title, keywords and description. Also, their URL http://www.2step-garage.co.uk/blackberry_phone.htm is using blackberry_phone that enforces that page. And looking at your site coding below:
<title>Free BlackBerry Phones</title>
<META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="Free BlackBerry BES and Free BlackBerry BIS - New Offers">
<META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="BlackBerry, enterprise server, BIS, BES, push email, handhelds, business solutions">
You are not focussed on the blackberry phone as both your description and keywords do not mention the blackberry phone itself.

Hope this helps.

How much older do you think his page is compared to yours? I bet much older and has earned much more "history" in Google.

Hi All,

apologies for passing on the wrong page which we are using to target the term BlackBerry Phones. The correct one is:

http://www.airtimemanager.co.uk/Blac...yHandsets.aspx

I will review our current meta tags, at the moment, they are showing as:

<title>BlackBerry Phones</title>
<meta name="description" content="RIM BlackBerry wireless Phones - BlackBerry 7100v, BlackBerry BlackBerry Phone 7230, BlackBerry BlackBerry Phone 7290, BlackBerry BlackBerry Phone 7730 – FREE BlackBerry trial & Low monthly BlackBerry phone contract">

<meta name="keywords" content="BlackBerry 7100v, BlackBerry 7230, BlackBerry 7290, BlackBerry 7730, FREE BlackBerry trial, Low monthly BlackBerry phone contract, blackberry phone, key features, system requirements, tri-band phone, QWERTY, keyboard, Bluetooth, SMS, organiser, wireless handheld, device, blackberry device.">

in terms of age, our site is 3 years + old - but theirs started in 2004. so maybe thats one of the key reasons why.

I thought with google, they like internal linking and making sure the keywords are included in the text links. on the competitor site he hardly has any internal blackberry links.

thanks everyone for all the feedback.. i will work more on the meta tags and shorten them as well.

I was not specifically talking about site age (all though that is a factor) but the page's age in Google.

Well you yourself would know how long your pages have been live. I dont remember how you do it for other websites or if you even can. From your own memory has the website page been online before you?
