Default rss + blog for seo purposes - what's the big deal?

hi all,

just curious ... so much has been talked about in the past regarding the use of RSS / Podcasts / Blogs to enable better rankings (for seo purpose) ... but who's really experienced the benefits?

anyone has empirical data on how these techniques have helped to generate traffic for your site?

thanx lots!

We are just starting RSS on our new website for the first time.

Ive been looking at RSS feeds and usually it is just text but our designer said we can include images that will link to that product on our website if this is the case then surely it will be helpful to drive traffic as i feel a lot more people will pay more attention to our RSS feeds than if it is just a simple text link.

Anyone else have any views of pics in RSS? if so can you let me know some examples so i can view them myself to see the impact

You build blogs or syndicate through RSS to bring value to your website for your end users. The fact that SE's like blogs because of the updated content everyday is secondary benefit.

I have experienced the benefits. Big time.

Actually, technically it's not just blogging--you can blog but you have to make sure you ping the various blog search engines and other "services" to tell them you've updated your blog.

Blogging is great for adding content to your site and keeping in touch with your site's visitors. But, let's get real folks: when it comes to SEO it's all about links and sending out pings every time you post in your blog will get links.

When you update your blog, a ping is normally sent to the popular blog search engines to notify them that you just updated your blog. This is usually built in to the most popular blog software and you really don't have to do anything special to get it to send a ping.

You can also use a service like Pingoat to send pings, as well.

For those that are interested, I recently wrote an article posted here at WPW that talks about search engine optimization for blogs.

We see top rankings for pretty much any topic we blog about, and the biggest benefit for us is that we can blog about products before launch (when we first see them) and have the rankings when product launch occurs. Placing a few links within the content gets the people searching for those products to the products rather quickly. It's been a huge boost to our sales.

How do you manage to get such good rankings for everything you blog about?

I'm just that damn good... LOL.

Really, with the way blogs work (linking with decent anchor text from lots of pages) they rank rather easily if you pay attention to your titles. They also automatically use headings that match the page title early in the page. It just makes blogs rank well. Of course, the PR6 didn't hurt anything, either.

Default Blogging for love

I encourage my clients to blog unceasingly and incessantly. Whatever those words mean. It offers good content links, and more importantlt, the perception of expertise.

recap:
Prolific blogging on a topic is good for text backlinks and the perception of expertise.

As a side benefit, you become an expert after you blog enough. Reasearch, study, compose, present, all good skills to take on in your "niche".

Also, I sometimes use Wordpress as a template for designing websites for some clients. They get tons of backend control to add content, blog, etc.
