Hi,

I have links that I don't want search engines to follow at all. Is there something I can put in the link markup to do this. I know of rel=nofollow but that doesn't stop the search engine from following the link and in this case adding stuff to the database.

Add to your links: ?googlebot=nocrawl

For example like that:

http://www.external.com/test.html?googlebot=nocrawl

And make sure to add in your robots.txt the folowing:
User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: *googlebot=nocrawl

We posted a resource about this issue in our blog: http://blog.webnauts.net/2006/05/16/...-out-of-there/

With this method you are at least protected from google.
