Hi
My site has been online since May04, has a PR of 3 and is hosted on a US server. I've been very unhappy with the site for a long time - had problems with the freelancer I used who did not complete the site acc to the spec - did not include meta tags apart from the title, used lots of javascript, bloated code and created the site in frames. Also, as I am based in the UK, the fact that the site is hosted in the US has absolutely done nothing at all for my UK based serps. All in all,it's been a mess....but I did not realise the extent of the mess to start with as did not have the knowledge to appreciate just how bad it actually is. I've now decided to cut my losses and get a new site sorted out by a professional. This time,I'll be getting it hosted on a UK server and is expressly intended to be more SEO friendly. I'd like to know how this site re-design might affect my PR? Will the PR 'transfer over' ? The domain name will still be the same and the theme of the new site is still the same as the old and although I will be using some of the old content, I'm going to be adding a few more pages as well. All the links I built up for my current site are directed to the main homepage, so there isn't an issue of links being directed towards pages which no longer exist. thanks, Red_Ken |

I doubt there will be any PR change if domain is the same.
Also, do not focus on visible (toolbar) PR, this is pretty useless by itself. Focus on getting good links to your site and having proper content and structure, instead. |

It definately wont effect the PR as PR is based on links only

Will switching hosting companies or changing my IP address affect my listing in Google?
"As long as your URL stays the same, your site's listing in Google shouldn't be affected if you switch hosting companies or change your IP address. We recommend migrating a site to a new IP address with the following steps: 1. Bring a copy of your site up at the new IP address. 2. Update your nameserver to point to the new IP address. 3. Once you see search engine spiders fetch pages from the new IP address (typically within 24-48 hours), it's safe to take down the copy of your site at the old IP address." |
