Default For UK site which Searchengines & Directories a must?

Which Searchengines and which Directories are a "must be in them" for UK based website catering just to UK consumers?

I think the choice of directories is more important than aiming at any particular search engine -- who in any case decide for themselves whether you're included or not, with little you can do about it.
But the right directories are the ones most connected with your field of endeavour. They can be UK based but may just as well be in the US or elsewhere. What you want to see is that they already list "your kind of people" and, if they're based outside the UK, that they do in fact have a distinct UK category.
