Hosting and UK based business

Hi All,

if I were to buy the hosting from a company based in Germany or USA and I am targetting UK customers and will be buying the .co.uk domain --- does this affect my chances in showing in the SERPS?

any articles you know of that you would recommend?

If you are targeting the UK...
Then you need either a .co.uk OR hosting on a server in the UK

Agreed - and I personally use Verio, they are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. www.verio.co.uk

What you don't trust us?
I know for my Canadian clients, I have seen this issue, so I assume it is the same for the UK, which I am sure ctabuk can confirm.

If you're still not sure, there is always contacting google yourself.

One other note: Just because the hosting company is located in xx country, doesn't necessarily mean the servers are there too.

I'm based in Toronto, Canada... but have servers in Canada, US and UK

UK sites that are hosted in the UK are given preference in the SERPs when if you search at google.co.uk.

If your UK site is hosted in Germany or the USA then you will not be given that preference in the UK SERPs.

If you're in the UK and targeting UK visitors, then you need to host the site in the UK.
