ODP annual report has come out:
http://research.dmoz.org/publish/chr...eport_2005.htm Check out the editor turnover: Active editor accounts on 1 January 2005: ~8,000 Active editor accounts on 31 December 2005: ~ 7,744 Number of editor accounts approved since the foundation of ODP: 71,050 New editors accepted in 2005: 4,776 Looks like ODP is trying to clean it editor pool as much as possible, but that still doesn't help my submissions. ugghhhhh... |

Those numbers are from them, so I assume they are true. I don't know numbers for past years. Quote:

Only have to do one edit every 4 months to stay on as editor.
The high turnover probably reflects the more selfish that just join to get their own site added --- however from what I have seen, in addition to that, almost all clean up the category, clear the backlog for the category and add a lot more than just their own site ... after that they just do not continue. In other words, they have still added value to the project. Its those that join, just add their own site and never return are the ones that risk having a "flag raised" and a senior editor might just remove that one site they listed. CBP |

Two questions:
1. Is there any statistics of human use of dmoz? 2. Will the next generation of people and SE be so clever on searching and indexing, that the use of directories decreases? I use dmoz in important ways. Very useful information in my personal view. |

I know the bashers like to say no one uses it (I have no idea how they actually come to that conclusion) and that the main user of it are webmasters looking for their site (I have no idea how they actually come to that conclusion). A while back when I got into real detail with one of my sites that is in a deep category, about 0.5% of the visitor came from DMOZ or a clone --- that equated to about 100 visitors a week -- so if 100 visit my site thats in a deep catgeory, I think that means a lot of people use DMOZ.
