Add On Domains

I have a website (in development) www.righthosts.com and I also purchased more domains and want to host those domains on the same host but as different websites.

The problem is that the new sites I have added are also showing up as sub directory's of righthosts.com

An example is www.golfing-forums.com which goes to the correct site but I can also access this from this url: http://www.righthosts.com/golfing-forums/

This is using CPanel and there are no options in there by the looks to add an independent domain.

I have talked to my hosting company about this and they are looking into it.

I'm not new to doing this sort of thing (adding websites and domain names) as I have a bunch of sites on the Windows server of this hosting co. But these use the Helm control panel which allows this to be done easily.

I would appreciate any feedback and ideas.

I also have this concern. My site domain name is an addon and as such is also a subdomain of my main webspace. What worried me was that yahoo was spidering my site it seemed to see them as 2 different sites. In my stats i was getting search results under the www.****.com/blabla and in the stats for www.blabla.com

I have enquired about doing something to robots.txt , because i wondered if a banned spiders from those directories from the root, where the subdomians are, that the only access to them would be via the domain name url. However on that I am not sure whether such a robots directive in the root might stop spiders even going directly to the URL www.blabla.com. I have a robots directive in the subdomain folder, but wondered whether even so they still go to the root of where the subdomain is hosted and read from that directive.

thanks for joining in. As far as I know spiders will always start at the top level of a domain and if it is going down several levels from there then I'm sure it would be thinking that this is a deeper part of the main website. It might see the add-on as less important than the main site. I doubt this could be controlled effectivly in the robot.txt or even sitemaps etc, your disallowing them to go there so they may just go away and say "ok then they dont want us to go there so we wont"... A robot.txt file in a subdirectory would be useless in my opinion.

I'm really surprised I'm even having to discuss this as this is not true domain hosting as far as I'm concerned and it's similar to what I considered options 5 years ago but it's not even an option to have a website in this condition, I'm a little mad really (not at you chandrika of course lol ) but CPanel & hosting co for not having a proper solution, maybe we are missing something?

I have three websites on lunarpages.com, one is my main domain and the other two are domain addons that appear as you guys/ladies describe. My experience is, don't worry about it. Point a few links from IBLs to these new sites, let the search engines find them and you are good. Make sure you do not ever link to those subdomains you do not want indexed, they exist for us all who buy hosting, they have hundreds of domains on the same IP often.

If you put the "www".blah.com address in a browser and it resolves you are good to go.

It also appears to be all about the links, which ever one gets the most pointing at it wins, there is also some sort of redirect that the webhost has to allow in order for things to not get hosed.

Hi aaron, thanks for the interesting comments, would you know if its possible to block access from www.righthosts.com/golfing-forums/ so the only way to the site is through www.golfing-forums.com ?
