Default How to link to sub folder index pages

HI,

I hope that somebody can clarify something for me. In the past we have linked to sub folder index pages in the following way:

www.mysite.co.uk/subfolder/

or

www.mysite.co.uk/subfolder

but rarely

www.mysite.co.uk/subfolder/index.html

This has worked fine for ages but lately it seems to be confusing Google & MSN and I have seen duplicate listings for the variants.

Should I simply use www.mysite.co.uk/subfolder/index.html in future and how will this effect my existing backlinks/PR gained from very many links to the other versions!

I have been using just:

/ = for the index
/page1.html
/page2.html

Cuz the engines already know the rest, I have heard people say put in the entire path including domain but I don't think it matters.

Along these same lines google is doing this with me:

I have two listings in the current index:

http://xyz123.com
http://www.xyz123.com

This is the only site not suffering from the current update, anyone?

Agreed I have always used www.mydomain.co.uk/subfolder/ and Google have indexed this very well until Jagger Update when a day later suddenly a another new non indexed URL only listing came along along the lines of www.mydomain.co.uk/subfolder and then a day later the original No1 position fully index fully cached www.mydomain.co.uk/subfolder/ simply dissapeared...

I have asked Google but do not expect much of a reply.
