Good to hear! ... beats the usual "not listed" threads.

It actually happens all the time - its just people never post the thank you threads -- just the bashing ones --> gives a false impressions. 1000-2000 sites get listed every day...many are only just suggested or were not suggested at all.

Default Congrats.

Congrats. Seems like we're stuck in the loop, and our SEO firm resubmitting didn't help anything I'm sure. They probably submitted to the wrong category anyway. They were suggesting distributors on the Yahoo directory instead of retailers. That's why they're gone at the end of this month, though.

Quit rubbin' it in... LOL. Really, you're just making people think DMOZ is more important than they already do.

I've found that many of the DMOZ mirrors end up being filtered from Google's index anyway (no unique content), so many of those links don't count. Oh, and Tool Parts Direct is indeed listed in DMOZ, although we've never asked for it. ToolBarn used to be listed, but in the wrong category. Once it's in line to be moved, it seems to take forever to get back in.

Default Come here cpb!

--> DMOZ listed one of my sites in under 2 weeks, it does happen when your website just can't be denied, and yes it makes us dance, sing and run after cpb to give him a warm bear hug! ;-)

I have also found that if you are not listed within a year and you made the mistake of firing someone up in that old DMOZ forum, your chances are very slim... even if your site is about, "Saving our Planet"

Oh well ;-(

I do not know why people choose to make up such BS. Its just not true. >99% of DMOZ editors do not come near SEO forums (a lot do not know what SEO stands for) and most editors do not go near RZ --- so what you say and do in forums about DMOZ will have ZERO effect on if ou get listed or not .... but if you bag DMOZ and DMOZ editors with silly comments, don't expect any help from those that frequent here.

Te only way a site is not listed is if it does not add unique value in terms of content to a category (hint)

Great hint but I have seen that this is not always the case.

Default Enough...

I think we've had enough DMOZ bashing threads around here already. Some categories are just so flooded that the submissions aren't worth doing, so the sites that get added are the ones that the editors personally find and add. I'm sure ours is that way, since there are literally 100's of 1000's of sites selling tools, and many are terrible.

DMOZ isn't the end-all be-all that it once was. It's just a directory, and most of the mirrors (which is where value used to really come from) don't get crawled much any more. IMO, you'd be getting a link at DMOZ for someone searching at DMOZ for your topic, not for rankings.

If you really hate DMOZ, then try building a better direcory yourself. I think you'll find that to be a tall order. Personally, I'm indifferent towards them. I don't see a ton of benefit, but I do see the occasional visitor to our parts site that searched DMOZ for something. Not enough traffic to write home about, but also not something I'd ask them to quit doing.

I think this thread has shown how submissions can still be useful in getting a site listed quickly, but it has also shown there are a number of categories where they'll probably never be seen. Work on your rankings and the editors will find you on their own.
