Default Hosting a Blog for Content

I'd like to ask you SEO specialists this?

I have blog 18 mos. old PR4 and all relevant to my website. I have used it to write stories and direct links to my web pages in product reviews, or articles where the text matches a section or item on my e-commerece site.

The blog is hosted at blogger but the URL is the same as my e-commerce URL except for the ".blogspot". JoeAnt wouldn't list it because they called it a "sub-Domain" of the e-commerce site which is listed.

I thought it would be better to use it standing alone and controlling the links w/o fear of both my e-commerce site and the blog "tanking" if the blog took a hit for some reason.

Now with people hosting/linking their blogs from their site (in my case it would be a link off the page footer or nav bar) and others hooking premade forums to them also. This is to satisfy GG's love of fresh content I believe?

My e-commerce site is PR4 - down from PR5 (for years) and my listings on a few terms have slipped a little.

From an SEO standpoint should I connect http://safetyenforcement.blogspot.com to the "Self Defense Products" site under my signature? Or, should I leave it out there and just continue to link to the e-comerce site which needs content/PR right now.

Sorry for the long winded post. I appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!
