Default Now here's a 'home' page and a half . . .

or why not make your site map your homepage?

thing is it ranks page 1 Google for 'gifts him' #5 of 65 million plus

a little play with the url tells all - the outfit behind this seems to have been around awhile so guess they think all is tickety boo here

http://www.usacitiesonline.com/ad4.htm

is this the way forward guys?

The mere fact it ranks for "gifts him" isnt a big surprise as the results will pull in all results for sites with gifts and him. Gifts him isnt a a highly targeted keyword, or atleast we dont target it much.

The bigger surprise is how he ranks at all with this crappy SPAM landing page. But then again it has always been my opinion Google loves landing pages with a high content to code ratio. I guess my main problem with crap like this is I bet landing pages have a horrible conversion rate and hence the top listings are wasted on them.

See:
Wedding invitations #1 and #2 listings. Pretty much the same idea.

Landing pages rank very easily in Google and are IMO Googles biggest flaw. I often wonder why Google favors these pages. Does it make for a great Google experience? Not in my eyes. But you go ahead Mr. Cutts and go after PAID RELEVANT ADVERTISING instead as it is the bigger crisis, right? Oh please.

This has got to be one of the most pathetic attemps at spamming I have ever come across. In fact it's so blatant I can't even be bothered to outline what they did. So to answer your question:

No, this is definitely not the way forward.

I'd be surprised if that page ranks anywhere for any phrase on any SE now and if it still does it won't for much longer.

Default Agreed . . .

Thanks - this has given me a little extra motivation to commence a complete rebuild on www.oldmap.co.uk which is currently hanging in pieces
(yep I know half the links aren't working!)

The point made on page rank v. conversion is a good one and often overlooked. I'll post some results here in a few weeks . . . so here we go

Old Repro Antique Map of Scotland as a Gift for a Man at Christmas – & Many Other
Unique Gift Ideas for Him & Her !!! :-(

If anyone has the time to check out my template for cross browser or any other issues it would be much appreciated!
