Is Google submission necessary ?

I have heard that there is no use of submitting the site in google and search engines. The site should have good links and will automatically searched by the Crawlers of these search engines.. Is it true. if yes then wht measures should i take to make my site popular for getting good listing withtout submitting it to these search engines.

I wouldn't submit any URLs to Google. It's better to let their crawlers find your site through links from other sites to your site.

but wht should i do to keep it ready for their crawlers to crawl through and list my site on top 20 to 30 ...

Get links to your web pages from other websites that share your same topic. Read more about the Google LocalRank algorithm.

Also, make sure there are links on your own website to all of your web pages so that the search engine can crawl your website properly.

should i submit to various directories.. or should i avoid them right now and first allow the crawler to crawl and then after couple of weeks start submiting to the directories for better listing..
