Default Free keywords research tool?

A friend saw a free keyword research information mining tool recommended in a Webproworld newsletter dated a couple days ago, entitled something like Web Templates and Search Engine Optimization. She deleted that email but told me that I could find it in this forum. I searched here but didn't see it. Have any of you long-timers here seen it? Thanks in advance.

thanks. It is a good article. It did not have that tool though. My friend said that it was mentioned in the newsletter in which this article was the main content, but it was not in that article. Do you have the link to that issue of the newsletter? She said it was in a thread in this forum, but I can't find it either.

CRich,
Thanks for the pointer. I knew about Overture keyword suggestion. Its limitation is that it only looks for search strings that contain your keyword(s) as a substring, e.g., if I type in "mp3", it gives me "free mp3, mp3 download, cheap mp3 player .......". What i want is a keyword research tool where when I type MP3, it will give me "ipod, digital audio, compression, WMA, ....".

I believe the second lead you gave was the one my friend was talking about. I will try it to see what it can do.

Default There's always wordtracker.

There's always WordTracker if you want to broaden your keyword horizons. You've got to be careful though. You can get into some funny tangents in a hurry.

As an example, I was looking for some additional words that could go with a chiropractic x-ray filtration device. One of the pieces of it (funny name that I'm not going to include here) shields the patients privates from x-ray radiation. Well, after a few lateral expansions of the keyword list, the phrases I was staring at were enough to make any porn site's list grow immensly.

I use wordtracker's tool 2 - 3 times per week, and it has really given me some excellent suggestions. I don't get paid to say that, I'm just a happy customer. Although if there is anyone from wordtracker here that wants to extend my membership... ;-)

The other one I've been hearing mentioned quite a bit lately by SEO firms and others at Search Engine Strategies is KeywordDiscovery. I've never tried it, but it has a free trial that you could sign up for yourself.

Brian.
