Default No worms, spiders, or any vermin on my site

I finished my first website a couple of weeks ago -- www.square2creative.com -- And to date, I've had about 8 visitors.
One world wide web worm has visited my site, and I appreciate his presence -- Now I'd like to invite all the spiders, worms and bots to crawl my site.

In reviewing several posts and reading articles, many suggest that submitting or oversubmitting can be bad. Should I take the first steps and submit to Google and others, or will the spiders find me if I'm patient?

Any advice to my newbieness is appreciated.
Steve

If some site with lets say 3-4 links in msn starts to ranks top 3 in MSN and get some 30-40 scrapped links in Yahoo and ranks top 10 and some envy competitor start a robot and provide you with some 3-4K links from guestbooks and blogs or 'world wide web worm' put 300-400 of your links on parked domains... Just speculations but does that mean that you don't have quality, site deserving #1 in google? Scary ist it? :)

Submitting to the major search engines will not accomplish much. Your site needs some in-bound links (IBLs) and some patience. The search engines use links to your site to learn about its existence. They also use the in-bound links as a major part of determining whether your site is worth a high ranking or low ranking or zero ranking.

Here is an article I wrote on getting in-bound links.

http://internetresults.blogspot.com/...ting-ibls.html

A good source of in-bound links are press releases. There is information on press releases at:

Hi,
- your site has been crawled by Google.
MSN search shows this forum pointing to you, - which will get you crawled by them, if they haven't already.
I've put links into your site from 3 of mine.
(www.dindorp.com www.dindorp.co.uk and www.radstock4u.com )
- now all you do is wait, like the rest of us, and maybe try and persuade a few more people to link to you as well . .
- keep your chin up!!

Hi Steve,

The advice so far is right on. You don't have to submit. Links are the quickest way to get crawled.

There's all kinds of advice to be given, but the quickest way to help you get crawled [not necessarily get visitors] is to put up a link to you.

The top search engines visit my business site daily and I know they'll pick you up in a few days.

I put a link to your site on the business part of the main menu, "Small Business Marketing" which will appear on every page.

It meets the criteria for linking, both being business sites and related to business plans.

Let me know when you start getting crawlers.

All the best,

Terry

Everybody is dead nuts about the ibl's. They are your lifeline to success. The one other thing you need now that you have some inbound links is content. Fresh content will keep spidey comin back for more and whatever you do......keep working on those links.

Once you get established, you can start new sites and have them indexed usually within a couple of days simply by pointing the crawlers in the right direction. If by some chance you are still not getting enough spiders by next week I will send some of my poker crawlers your way!

Default Re. Search Engine Ranking

I have been looking into search engine ranking for some time now. I was originally introduced to it about 4 1/2 years ago when a client of mine asked questions I couldn't answer about how to get his site ranked highly in search engines.

Since then I have done a little university research and lots of job related research on the topic of search engine optimization and search engine ranking. From everything I have read, you can't expect any immediate results, but it seems that people don't want to hear that. So this is what I think......

Take your time and be careful with the design of your site, make sure the site has a lot of valuable content, not just what you want and then try to use Meta tags as a quick fix. Make sure your site has a meaningful title to it; maybe a few keywords could be strategically placed in there

Once you have completed a few simple steps with your website, upload it and wait a couple of days, maybe a week or so for Google to index it. I would then search the URL in Google to make sure that the site comes up. This will show you the title and description that search engines are taking from your site. In the mean time you can try to seek out other related sites for linking purposes to help you and your constituents a related network of sites to rely upon. You never know, maybe others have thought of things you might want to include. Once sites are assessed, pick a few and create links to there on your site and ask them to do the same in return.

And wait.....

This will all go into helping you rank high with search engines.

Please feel free to make comments and questions to this post. I would like to see some feedback just to make sure im on the right track myself.

Thanks for all of your help. That makes me feel much better -- and thanks for the inbound links that a few of you set up!!

Dindorp, you stated that my site has been crawled by Google -- how do you know that? Is that the cache; url?

Default back links

Hi, good luck with your new business. I have noticed that for me the most effective way of creating traffic and creating backlinks has been by posting on my Gazette (http://rushprnews.iuplog.com) and sending press releases to the newsdesk of most major outlets. Weeklies are even better than dailies. Cordially,
Anne

Good advice Anne. I've read a lot on this forum and other articles about submitting press releases to build links. Sounds great in theory, but I don't manufacture anything I'm not solving any problems that thousands of other people aren't also doing -- why would a weekly/paper run a press release on my buisness when they have hundreds of others to choose from??
Can you give me examples of what they might be looking for?
Thanks!
Steve
