Default HP Says AdWords Better Buy Than Yahoo!

According to a news brief from Internet Retailer, not all search engines are created equal when getting the most bang for you advertising buck. HPShopping.com seems to suggest that Google is better.

While producing similar conversion rates overall for the website, HPShopping reported that Google’s AdRank formula, which measures relevancy determined by volume of user click-throughs, provides a better price on brand keywords than Yahoo!’s bid-for-position system.

“On Google, you don’t necessarily have to bid as high to get that better position because of the relevance factor. On our own brand terms we are always going be very relevant,” Catherine Paschewitz, HPShopping.com’s director of consumer marketing told Internet Retailer.

She also noted that the campaign savings freed up funding for more aggressive bidding on other keywords.

Yes, but since Google's AdWords are distributed on a huge ass network, you tend to get more bogus clicks than with Overture. I stopped my Adwords campaigns due to a poor conversion rate...

It's simple enough to turn off content networks and just leave the search ads on. I've done that for most of my campaigns, but there are a few that convert VERY well on the content network for us. Also, since Overture (Yahoo Search Marketing) is going to be providing a similar program to AdSense, it'll just be a matter of time before that value gets diluted as well.
