Default directory submission confusion

I recently stumbled across my predecessors folder on our intranet, and have been going through his IE favourites. I found a site called search-o-rama.com and on the submission page entered our URL and my email address. As soon as I hit 'submit', 8 different submission responses appeared in my inbox from 8 directory websites I have never heard of!

This has not happened to me with any other directories I have submitted to - is it a bad thing? If so what possible repercussions could there be and how could these be prevented?

Thanks :-)

It sounds like you've hit one of those one-click to submit to 'x' number of directories type of programs. Probably shouldn't be anything to be worried about.

You might check out a few of them if you're concerned about them and maybe see how 'link farm-ish' they are (90% of these non name directories are just link farms). Even still, you probably aren't hurting yourself with them linking to you. Search engines all know you can't control who links to you or why. Otherwise everyone would just add their hated competitor to all the link farms they could find.

So, they aren't going to hurt you but I wouldn't look for your traffic to double or anything either. There is (and has been for some time) a real attempt being made on the part of major enignes to qualify and deistinguish between 'good' links and junk links. 1 link from IBM or Amazon for example will count a lot more than 10,000 links from these link-spammed directories.

All in all you probably didn't do a whole lot of anything...

Hope you've got a spam blocker on your email, pagetta. If not, get one.

What you just did, by using your eamil address, is provided an open invitation to those "major search engines" and anyone who purchases the email address from them or search-o-rama.com to sell you all sorts of wonderful stuff. You can gamble to your heart's content while looking at the most bizarre fetish porn imaginable and scoring with tons of beautiful women. But don't worry...your enlarged penis will be more than enough to handle all of those lovely ladies.

In other words, you're gonna get spammed to Hell and back again.

lol> I hope you will be fine, but be careful dont do it anymore, you can always submit your website by yourself without depending on people and spammers, who just submit your website in anyway as longes it is "done" Directory submission software

I wish you luck!:)

You should be fine but you may want to just set up a quick free email account to use in place of your current address.
