Default double website files - double content

Hiya,

thought I share this online experience with you all:) I have been working on updating our website and generating new and more relevant content to the airtimemanager.co.uk. The impact of the changes is very positive so far and our ranking has increased from 1 to 2 (am still working on increasing that ofcourse.)

to my surprise, i found that because we had 2 different folders, the new pages were showing on the site, but the old pages were still live. Google has indexed both the old and new folder. I was that close to spamming! I had double content, on the same website - even though i was not linking to the old pages, but the old pages were linking to one another.

lucky or what? we were not banned ! I removed all of the old ones now..in hope the new ones will manage to boost our rankings even more.

thanks,
Tania

Default

I've encountered this whenever we do a web site update that involves changing the folder structure. Eventually the old pages will "fade away", but in some search engines -- such as Ask -- that may take a long time. In some cases it an take up to a year.

So don't forget to put in permanent redirects from all the old pages to an appropriate new page.
