g-stats
Hi all,
I'm not sure if I'm posting this under the right category as it partially deals with programming...
Recently, I created a site for a client. I would say, at most, it's been up for about 3 weeks now. Last week, when I checked the stats, the number of hits and visits was extremely high. Now, I expected them to be kind of high since I had submitted the site to Web directories the week previously and I figured the administrators for those directories would be checking out the site.
However, for the 2nd week of it being up, between 06/26/05 - 07/02/05, the site received 303,790 hits and 17,366 visits. I thought at first that it may have just been a fluke but, when I ran the stats today, between 07/03/05 - 07/09/05, the site had 171,020 hits and 15,738 visits.
I noticed one set of domains that were hitting the site: g-stats.net and g-stats.com. The first time, there were 14,450 visits from www . g-stats.net (NOTE: added spacing to prevent it from becoming a link) and 607 visits from the same domain, minus the www at the beginning. This week, there were 13,575 visits from www . gstats.net, 170 from gstats.net and 3 from www . gstats.com.
My first question is this: has anybody heard of this site before? I assume it's for statistics? Why would it continuously be hitting my client's site?
My second question is programming related. My client is on a shared Windows hosting account so there are bandwidth limits. I'm afraid that this set of domain names are going to cause her to go over her quota and then be charged by the hosting company. Is there any way in ASP to block these domains from accessing her site?
I seen a previous posting on how to block an IP via .htaccess on Apache and via IIS on Windows but, since this is shared Windows account, I don't have access to IIS.
Any suggestions?
If you need to see the stats (WebTrends reports in MS Word format), let me know and I'll upload them to my server.
Thanks all,
