Default Titles and tags

Hi

I have been tasked with SEO for a brand new site.

For previous sites I have use the following code for the header etc:

<title>Corsican Places</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="Corsican Places - hand picked Corsica Holidays">
<META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="Corsica holiday, corsica villas, pool, holiday in Corsica, apartments, corsican places ">
<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="index,follow">

Is this the best set up to use? Just about to start putting it onto the site so want to make sure its the best format, I understand the need to change the content as in keywords etc...

cheers
Joe.

fluff it up a bit. You've still got room to add more keywords and a longer description in there.

Default Looks like it's fine.

Looks like it's fine, but the last one is optional.

<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="index,follow">

Basically, this just says "Do what you do anyway", so it really is meaningless and occasionally has been cited (not proven) to cause bot confusion.

I usually use both a robots.txt file and the tag
<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="index,follow">

There are a few more metatags. There has been some discussion on if they are useful or needed.
<META NAME="rating" CONTENT="general">
<META NAME="author" CONTENT="Your company name">

To be used on client sites who refuse to listen to your input:
<META NAME="Authorized By" CONTENT="ClientName">

I had a site that a friend was having problems with in MSN. He was updating content regularly, which MSN likes, but he wasn't ranking. He removed the revisit 7 days instruction and he immediately went to the top.

I'd caution against using extra tags if you want to be as good as possible in ALL the engines. Some SEO firms use almost 20 tags, telling their clients that it makes all the difference and the companies that don't use them don't know what they're doing. Great story, but it's just not the case.

Meta tags can help slightly in some engines, but can do a lot of damage when used improperly. When in doubt, leave them out.

I read some place on the net that all you need are the 4 or 5 that have been posted on here. I have a site that I did but don't care if it gets ranked or not and have a ton of meta tags in it. It happens to be the top site in the keywords I used for it.
