Default Using background image to replace text, using css and h1

Also known as, the FIR technique.
http://www.stopdesign.com/articles/replace_text/

In a nutshell, you hide the text using css, and set the H1 tag to have a background image

I know sometimes using style sheets to set text to display:none can cause problems, however I have used it with success, only as a last resort when a client will not modify their original copy not matter what.
I wonder if I just answered my own question? ;)

I'll ask it anyway, does anyone use this technique, have you noticed any penilties or filters from any of the engines?
