Default Google reports THOUSANDS of strange links back to my site

Hi everyone,

I've recently noticed a huge increase in the number of times Google finds my domain name "www.divinewrite.com" on the web. If you go to Google and search for the domain name, then select "Find web pages that contain the term "www.divinewrite.com"", it says there are around 4,500. Until about a fortnight ago, this number varied from between 500-900. Then it jumped up to about 3,000 overnight and has been steadily rising since then.

While I like to see lots of backlinks, this has me concerned. Mostly because I don't know why it's happening, and also because I don't want to be sandboxed as a result.

So I've checked out where the links are coming from. From about page 56 of the results onward, there are a HEAP of results that look like this:

Quote:
Build Your Own Pc Pdf more about Build Your Own Pc Pdf

... Visit http://www.divinewrite.com for further details or more FREE ...
http://www.comp104.pc-201.info/Build...wn-Pc-Pdf.html - 24k - Cached - Similar pages
Most of the URLs look similar to this and the pages all look the same (i.e. it's the same company). The article the pages reference is an article I wrote.

When I visit the pages, and look for a link back to my site, there is no link. I search for "divine" and it doesn't exist. I view the source and search for "divine" and still no luck.

This all looks very suspect to me and I don't like it. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

BTW, if I go somewhere like http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/ and report on the number of backlinks, it's nothing like the number reported by Google. In fact, it never was. So I understand that Google may not be showing an accurate representation of backlinks even at the best of times. It's just this sudden jump that has me worried.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

This is happening to loads of sites, the latest theory is that is a Inktomi spider search from another forum that you may be posting in.The problem is you can no longer access Inktomi.
One guy picked up 333,000 sudden BL's ! Keep posting on this one.
