Default Web Position Gold 3.5. Any good?

I do not have a lot of time to spend on seo. I would prefer to find a good program to use to do this, rather than studying and learning how to do it myself. My time is needed in several other areas.

I have Web Position Gold 2.1

I ran it today to get a report on a new website, and it displayed an ad for v 3.5.

Does anyone have any advice on this product?

I have heard older versions are likely to get you banned. Is that still the case?

Default The easy way is the bad way.

As with most everything in life, taking the easy way out in SEO isn't usually a good idea. The programs that exist don't take into account the competition. Some industries require some pretty heavy duty optimization, loads and loads of links, and a lot of effort. Others, that same amount of effort would be such overkill that it won't seem natural and get you banned.

If you're not willing to do it right, a program isn't going to do it for you. It's a shortcut that is, at best, a risky way of getting some results.

agreeing with brian.mark, you need to either hire an seo expert/company or learn how to do it on your own.

In regards to WebPosition, the only thing that it's useful for is the Reporter feature which will save you time trying to query all the SE's.

Just because someone is using a tool to help them optimize a site, does not mean that is all they are using and relying on.

bbbuffalo - To answer your question, as far as I know 3.5 churns out much nicer looking reports, and has a few extra bells and whistles. When it comes down to a lot more of the core stuff that you are probably using offered by the program, I believe they are more or less the same.

It doesn't mean that, but this really implies that:

Just because someone doesn't want to take the time to learn SEO usually means they want to take the easy way out and find some "Magic Bullet" offered for a few hundred dollars - and I've seen many sites banned for taking the easy way out.

I suppose I assume for the most part anyone posting in these forums has browsed enough to know not to rely on any program 100%. I'm sure there are exceptions, but the type of people looking for a "Magic Bullet" usually aren't the type to search out additional information.

I do understand there is no "magic silver bullet", I was asking more if this is a tool that works as it advertises.

Will a site be penalized for using WPG or other types of seo software?

I know for every problem, someone has created a software solution. So that is why I asked. Yes, I would like an easier way to do seo than manually.

Any other suggestions?

Default Easier than manual

We went the route of hiring an SEO firm. Since they do a lot of market research before they start doing anything, we're sure that everthing they're suggesting is appropriate for our market.

I found this article on it: http://www.webdeveloper.com/manageme...bposition.html
The first item they say it does concerned me. "Doorway pages" are generally considered a bad thing in SEO. Also, they claim to know all the quirks of each search engine. Did they examime source code? Did they get this info from engineers from each engine? Nobody really knows what goes on in a search engine, so this is usually a red flag.

The article seems to think that this is a good program, but I'd still have some reservations based upon how they said it accomplished the results.

If you just want some basic reporting and plan to understand SEO and primarily use this to track results, it should be fine. If you want it to do the job start to finish, it is probably not something that is possible.
