Default Subdomain helps or not

Hi

Do having a sub-domain of a site helps in ranking better in Search engine or not.

I think they should bcoz if im having the subdomains with keywords then the URL is more optimized.

Plz clarify whether im on right path or not.

having a subdomain will give you the opportunity to have another link pointing to your "main" site and will be counted accordingly by the SE's.

Just don't crazy and have 50+ subs pointing tho...

Thankx SEOforGoogle for your reply

So it means they wont be having any -ve effects on my website and might have some +ve effects .....like extra
external links and URL optimization.

But i have one more doubt that Arent they treated as multiple domains on single IP and if yes can they have some bad effects on my rankings.

- Even though they are on the same IP, in the SE's eyes, if you have subdomains on your site, there must be something worthy enough to warrant that sub. That's why you don't want to abuse this method as the SE's will eventually penalize this method...

I can certainly attest to this; amen!

I am still in the process of building my first website. It's been a fun, but tough learning curve.

Sub-domains give you a wonderful opportunity to have completely separate content, interfaces, templates and most importantly, keyword targeted traffic.

HOWEVER, speaking from experience, and affirming SEOforGoogle's remarks, you also have the opportunity to make a HUGE mistake if you end up with duplicate content pages being indexed.

To be somewhat modest, I kick butt in Yahoo and MSN for some very competitive keywords and phrases without paying one cent. Alas, I lose my __ in Google for this error.

I've chalked it up to a lesson learned and as I'm going through and applying new knowledge and experiences to clean up my site, the true power of the sub-domains are beginning to emerge.

Good luck!
