Default Search Engines indexing Dynamic Websites..Any Solutions????

Dear All,

I hope this is the right section to post this question..

It's well known that Majority of the search engine don't or wouldn't index Dynamic sites or Database driven sites..

I believe there are solutions or ways around this But my question is won't the search engine penalise sites that apply methods to make a dynamic url appear static..?

Also has anybody use a product called "LINKFREEZE" and what they think of the product.?

Thanks for your advise in advance..

Joseph

Joseph,
From what I gather, it's not the fact that a site is database driven, or not, that effects the indexing of a site. It's a matter of how many variables you are passing in the querystring as well as optimization. I don't think that search engines can differentiate between static and database-driven content since database-driven content is generated at the server.

I would be very surprised if large sites, such as Amazon and Microsoft, were static Web sites.

The way I have set up my site, in ASP, is that I have an administration for the services, products, links and portfolio sections. When, for an example, I add a service, it will take the title that I enter for that service, parse out all unnecessary characters to create a file name (e.g. the title Flash Design would be parsed out to something like flash_design_110.asp, the 110 being the record ID) and then create that file on the server using templates I have in place. When creating the file on the server, I embed the record ID at the top of the file as an ASP variable. By doing so, I no longer have to use querystrings in most circumstances.

I'm not all to familiar with PHP but you can rename files dynamically using, I believe, ModRewrite, or something of that nature. You could probably also do the same with PHP as I've done with my site if you like having physical files on the server.

Default Search Engines indexing Dynamic Websites..Any Solutions????

Thanks JSeverson for your reply,

Is it OK then to assume from your response then that search engine would not penalise sites that uses ModRewrite or any other URL Rewriter tools..?

And if the answer is yes then thats fine..

I take it you haven't heard about "linkfreeze" then??
If you have what do you think of it?

Also do you know where i can find detailed guide on how to achieve what you have describe in your response in converting a dynamic link to static link...

I use ASP.NET..."*.aspx" on my site "http://www.jpservicez-smart-bargain-shopping.com" and I'm looking for ways to make the URL static. OR I wouldn't mind paying you or anyone to help me convert my links..I have an ISAPI-REWRITER tool but i have given up using it as i am getting nowhere with it.

Please advise..

Joseph

I have no problems with my rewritten sites - they get spidered very well. I use it a lot, mostly to make URLs easier to handle for the visitors. mod_rewrite is a great tool ...

Sorry, I don't know how the ISAPI rewriter works. Anybody else?

I have several database driven sites and do use query strings (with one variable) and the sites all get indexed and rank well.

The only advice I'd give is that if you want ALL your pages indexed, make sure they're ALL listed in a sitemap at the root level or linked from your main pages.

I have two sites with several thousand records, and thus several thousand dynamic pages, and a user has to do a search to get to some of the older content. The new content is all linked from the main pages and the search engines index it fine - but some of the older content doesn't get found. That works for my site just fine, but your situation may be different.
