Default Best software for monitoring traffic, SEs and search phrases

Just posted this in another SEM forum as well (only one though) so apologies if you've just read it. I was just wondered what software people thought was the best for monitoring site traffic, search terms used to find sites, Search Engines and all that good stuff and the pros and cons of the various packages available.

Thanks,

Jem

Clicktracks For stats which has some great tools for tracking and analysing vistors, but its the high priced spread for sure.

Keyword suggestion tool for a free and easy way to research keywords on Wordtracker and on Overture at the same time.

Wordtracker for brainstorming keywords. You can get a one day subscription for about $7.00 and that is enough to reasearch one sites keywords.

WebPosition gold for comparing the details of your pages optimization with up to five other top ranking pages (and though many will tell you its a no-no it has a great ranking tool also)

But the best resource of all is located immediately beneath your hair - fed with facts and used properly it is the best of all.

I hate to argue with a fellow poster, but stay well away from WebProGold - it mimics a browser. If you are going to buy software then get Internet Business Promoter. Google has issued warnings on WPG

Well not to take exception Ctabuk, and it certainly is true that Google have singled out Webposition Gold, but there is really not much difference at all between the way the two query search engines to get results, and after investigating both I will still stick with WPG.

In fact I am of the opinion the WPG is probably the most search engine friendly of the lot.

I have my issues with WP Gold but it is more on the submit side where I am worried.

I use click tracks and I am fairly happy. It is pain that the $400 plus version does not work with split logfiles.

Hi Mel, Actually we can help 'Newbies'here - I just did a Yahoo UK&Ireland search on 'Web pro gold "reports" - Now not only will this help show that there are always two sides to any discussion but it will have the added bonus of showing how 'Threads & Topics here at WPW' are picked up as backlinks by Yahoo.

And it also shows just how messed up the Yahoo first page rankings can be. I really don't see the relevance of yacht racing results or the economic review of the stock market.

You do get somewhat better results if you search for WebPosition Gold "reports"
