Default Multiple domain name dilemma

I have 3 domain names that relate to my site.

dn#1 = http://www.fitcareproducts.com
dn#2 = http://www.airfitbackrest.com
dn#3 = http://www.selfinflatingbackrest.com

Initially I registered dn#1 (the name of my company).

Several months later I registered dn#2 and dn#3 (the name of my product) and "parked" them at dn#1. I use dn#2 in all my marketing.

Users can arrive at my site via dn#1, dn#2, or dn#3.
dn#1, dn#2, and dn#3 are being indexed by the main search engines.

All the links that I submit to directories, search engins, and page links on my site, etc. reference dn#2.

Questions: Should I have my host change my "main" domain name from dn#1 to dn#2 since that is the one I always reference? Can the way its set up currently be detrimental to Page Rank or site placement in the search engines?

Welcome to WPW

You really need to get what is called a 301 redirect from two of the domains ASAP to just one. As the same content is on each domain (ie the adress remains the same in the address bar), it is only a mater of time before you get stung with the duplicate content penalty.

Should I have my host change dn#2 to the "main domain" name ?

Should I have "parks" placed on the dn#1 and dn#3 to point to dn#2 ?

Should I then place 301 redirects on dn#1 and dn#3 ?

What do I need to do to set-up the 301 redirects ?

Can you suggest a resource or provide advice ?

Thank You very much !

It is up to you which domains to host the primary website under, but I would obviously go with the one that has the most in-bound links. So to answer your question it is more than likely yes. Host your main website under #2.

The most important thing to do is to set up 301 redirects. Depending on how your web site is hosted and coded, determines the way your 301 direction is set. Simply do a search on this WebPro World or Google for "301 direction" and you should find the info you need. The 301 redirects will be in place on #1 and #3 as mentioned above only if you switch to have your main domain as #2.

Will it appear seamless to visitors who come to the site via one of the domain names with the 301 redirects.

The 301 redirect is mainly in place for the spiders. It is important for them to know that these websites are not dups of your main website.

I usually put up a brief info page detailing that your website has permanently moved to domain #2. Some put a meta refresh on the page so that is loads to the main domains, but I avoid that.

Currently my server logs always report "200" regardless of which of the 3 domain name visitors enter via.

Assuming I have my host change dn#2 to the primary domain name and have redirects set for dn#1 and dn#3,,, should my server logs begin to report "301" whenever someone enters my site via the redirected domain names ? or may the logs continue to report "200" even for the redirects ?
