Default is the .info domain compatible to .com domain

I have booked a .info domain because myname.com is already taken by other person and generally i had seen that all the results shown by the google mainly contains .com domains if my site is good and my content is good and keywords are strong is there possibility to my .info domain to go top position.

As far as I can tell Google gives no preference to the domain extension when ranking. There a juts a lot more .com names out there, hence may appear hat they rank better.

Some try to argue that a .gov or .edu extension are looked on more favourably than a .com or .net or .info --- I am not convinced as a .edu and .gov are more likely to have a lot of one way incoming links - so they rank better because of that linking and not the domain extension.

As long as your site has great unique content, it will stand a chance of getting to a top spot. The SE's don't care about the extension when they output the results.

However, from a user perspective, a ".com" seems to lend itself to more credibility, since it gives the perception that you "were there first" and any other tpe of extension is somehow devalued.

I know someday I will have to stop being a domain level snob - but I just wouldn't be caught dead with a non .com domain name.

If this is for your main site, go for a dot com, even if you have to get a bit creative with the URL.

hi nagarjuna55334

We are seeing more and more none .com .net .net etc domains getting the rankings. As the number of new domains that get registered the rankings are also increasing proportionally. I don't think the search engine give preference to the extension.

6 months ago I would have agreed with Kelly since .com carries a stereo type of being the only domain to have but considering that many of the good names are gone or they have been spammed in the search engines and it difficult to get a tainted domain to rank I would choose another extension. After all it's the website content that gets the rankings and generates the sales of conversions.
