Default Buying Domains as part of our overall strategy

Greetings,

I have been tasked with getting our new website built, posted, and indexed and then build the traffic etc. In a former life I was a web guy but it's been 3 or 4 years since I took any of it even remotely serious while I learned a new trade.

Anyway, we have a pretty rough domain name right now www.imagesontheweb.net instead of using our old name www.imagesjewelry.com. I eventually plan to redo the old site as a local interest site to drive foot traffic into the store, but use the new site for more web based customers..

We have been discussion buying up a few 'better' names in the future, several will be coming available this year if they don't get renewed, or we may just spend the money and buy them outright..

So my question before we get too far into this is what is the best way to go about integrating these new names into our over all strategy?? The long term goal is to eventually aquire a name such as customjewelry.com and use that as our primary.. But, how do we use newly aquired names to drive traffic to our primary site?? A lot of 301 redirects seems to be coutner productive, but redundant content also seems pointless.. New sites for each name, with slightly different content with backlinks all over the place?? Or do we scrap the idea and just go for that one holy grail domain name and be happy with that??

Welcome to WPW Steve!

Considering the local angle, having the compamy name as the URL is an important consideration. Using the page title then, to convey your message. For example...
"Images Jewelers Custom Jewelry"

Use this as your text link for your IBL's as well.

Something else to consider. Google returns the following search results...

Custom Jewelry... 3,390,000 results
Custom Jewelers... 436,000 results

Good Luck!

Dave
