Stats on Search Engine position vs # of Clicks?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a reliable resource where I can get some recent statistical data on the relationship between a site's (organic) search engine results ranking and the # of times users click on the listing. I realize this can vary greatly from case to case, but does anyone know of any studies which came up with some ballpark figures? [i.e. "Users were 50% more likely to click on search results 1-5 than results 5-10", etc.]

Any assistance would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

If you have volume traffic go for the $12.00 per month version or you can get it free with a more limited stat report, or ask your server if they can supply the info, and that includes Overture who do it automatically via PPC.

There has just recently been a publication of some excellent work on this matter: with actual results of the effect of SE and PPC ranking on clicks.

This detailed work covers a number of other behavioral issues including natural vs paid search response, which search engines drive results, even how early in the buying cycle one begins search relative to product price!

We know how impactful the search marketplace is upon gathering information for, and the impact upon, the buying decision. This is a useful piece of work with some astonishing conclusions.
