When it comes to ranking well on Google, keyword density is a garnish. Links with good anchor text are the meat.

You may also have your key word in there too many times and could be looking spammy to Google. Check your key word density and make sure it is under 10%.

just checked density of keyword 'chester'
and it is 8.92% I have just reduced the size of my index page and found it has increased my ranking. I am no 4 in altavista for 'chester tourist'. Does download time/page size a factor in ranking ? |

I don't know if the download time will effect you in the SERPs but download time will effect the amount of visitors that stay and wait to visit your site. Make sure while your below 10% density that your content is worded for a visitor and not a spider.

Fctoma is right about the links. I recommend submitting to free directories and also looking for other relevant sites to get links from. I don't think your download time is an issue.

There is a lot more to "keywords" than meets the eye. Let's just pretend for a moment that they are not necessary anymore in the metatags as some advocate. They still help establish focus on a logic channel for the Search Engines. What are you trying to accomplish on each page? Set up your pyramidal hierarchy with the most important keyphrases after you do your competitive analysis and let them "bleed" all over your Title and HTML Body text adcopy, if nothing else.
Remember though that customers do not buy products!, they buy percieved benifits, usually based in inane human drives. Ken |

I understand now that a link to your site is like a 'vote' for it.
Because you can maniplate the content to increase your position yourself. but it is harder to manipulate other people to link to you. But my site is not listed in the top 200 sites. But if you look at the sites that are listed. there is one with pictures of fungi, yha chess club. |

There's no need to manipulate anything. You should create content that people want to know about. Write articles about your subject matter and get them posted throughout any PR outlet that you can. That's a great way to have in-bound links to your site. I know it's not as easy as a reciprocal link program, but nothing worthwhile is going to be easy. Getting a top rank is hard to do, or else none of these forums would exist because all the webmasters would be able to do it. |
