Default Scam Email to Exchange Links?

I got a very polite email that said:

Thanks for your offer to exchange links. I visited [my domain name] and have approved your link. It is located at: [their link page URL]. I could not, however, find a link to us on your site. Could you please email back with the URL so I can update our records? Thanks!

I immediately started adding them in without thinking about it but now I'm fairly certain that I did not initate an exchange with them. I use arelis and they weren't listed - either in the database or the filter list (which is where they'd be if I requested and then deleted). I'll sure be watching in the future for this kind of email. I guess maybe they figure people will do what I did and assume they just forgot about it.

I got one just like that about 3 days ago, exactly word for word, but I DID initiate an exchange and I had already put their link up. I don't they could find it.

It could be the same company I suppose, or even a canned response that is used through some link exchange software.

It's not a big deal . . . it just struck me as a strange way to get someone to link to them. If it weren't for the fact that the db I use records all link exchange requests I really wouldn't have thought anything of it.

Odd, that's all.

I get a lot from LinkBuilder...... Guess what I do.......Trash them!

I have a form for link requests, so I know they're genuine (i.e mail headers).

I see this and many other similar ones on a regular basis. I actually spend as much time (if not more) filtering through these and other requests before deleting them.
