Default selling links

Hi all,

I currently own a PR7 web / forum related site and am looking to sell some links to pay for some dedicated hosting etc. Does anyone have any experience on how to go about this? I've seen quite a lot of sites that have offered to be middle men and put you in touch with a client, but was wondering if this is really worth the cost.

As most boards link exchange forums disallow you to post advertisements for link purchase I was wondering how anyone else goes about it?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the welcome,

I've seen the requests forum, but the rules state

"2. This forum is for Link Exchanging, Link Selling is not allowed."

Don't want to get banned after 2 posts ;)

One of my sites, House of Fusion (Not posting the url as I'm not sure it's legal to do so) is of the same sort with a PR8. I have a side bar setup at the moment with Google adwords which pays off a small amount (and provides some interesting stats). I also put in an Amazon bar on longer pages.
Point is, when your talking about selling links, your really talking about selling text ads of some sort. Using something like Adwords is a good start in such a case. If you don't want to go that route, then do some tests. Set up a test link to some related content and see how often it's seen and clicked. Work out a small number for what you want to charge people based on that.
I'm adding in for pay text ads that work the same basic way. It's selling a link with related text. Again, I'm not sure I'm allowed to talk about how I'm setting up the per display cost or algarithm. I have to read the FAQ. :)

You can buy or sell straightforward link ads on sites like www.linkadage.com (theres also another one which I cant remember, but I think they have ads on linkadage).

Forget the PR reason, its basically buying selling text ads since PR counts for zip nowadays.

I am sceptical that the link selling sites have enough users to cater for specialised sites.

I have had some success selling advertising directly, which takes effort to get going but if you can keep your advertisers happy has minimal ongoing costs.

As I've seen many sites whose ONLY claim to high ranking in google is 1 link from just 1 high PR site. It could make all the difference in the world. Not to mention, that if you are into reciprocating links or building a directory of sorts, many won't even put your link up if you don't have high enough PR.

It does matter in a weird sort of way.
