Default Narrow Focus vs. Keyword Diversity

I'm optimizing a site that focuses on education and Buddhism. Certain pages on the site touch upon other LARGE topics, like: corporate culture, information technology, Eastern medicine, agriculture, government, civil defense, correctional systems. I would like to choose different keywords for each page thereby optimizing each page for the particular topic covered and expanding my pool of high-ranking keywords, but will I be penalized for not keeping a tight focus on the main topic?

Any comments are greatly appreciated!!

If I understand your question correctly, no. I am not aware of any search engine that would penalize you for having different keywords or keyphrases for different pages on your site - in fact, I think the opposite is true. You should tailor keywords to specific pages and if anything the fact that you aren't repeating the same keywords across a number of pages should be seen as a good thing.

Default Personlised Every Keyword.....

Hi,
I think you should make for each keyword Information Page that will target one ot two keyword.

U will make Individual because ::
>> Content of Every keyword will be different.
>> Title of every keyword will be different.
>> Keyword Frequency,Prominance and proximity will be different to each keyword.
>> PR will try to get according the traffic of the keyword.
>> Internal Link analysis will be different.

Lot of points will be different so try to make the information pages to each keyword.

I hope it will help you............

It's much better to have 25 pages with each of them targeting two keywords than one page targeting 50.

By having different RELEVANT keywords for each page is the way to do it and will ensure you are focused on the main topic of that page.

Thank you all for your comments! I just was wondering if there's an optimal # of keywords to target per page. rlrouse, you mentioned 2 per page and that seems quite low to me. Any thoughts? (I know it's late to be asking for more input)

Two, maybe three keywords per page is best for ranking well for those keywords. The more keywords you have, the lower the keyword density for each of those words.

For maximum effect, you need to use your keywords in the link anchor text of the links pointing to the page, the page title, and the meta description. You simply cannot do that effectively for more than two or three keywords.

You can have 15 keywords on a page, no problem. But you probably won't rank in the top 5 for any of them if they're half-way competitive keywords.

Divide your keywords among several pages and you can rank well for all of them.

Default Flame Design

Two keywords is even better, but only if you have enough pages that you can afford spreading them out in a relevent way ;)

True, but... If you don't have enough pages to spread out the keywords, you simply need to add more pages.
