To Comma or not to Comma, that is the question

In the keyword meta tag, I have heard opinions on whether or not to separate words and phrases with commas. Recently I was asked by a client my advice about this and frankly wasn't sure what to say.

What is the latest word on whether or not to separate keywords and phrases with commas?

It probably dosen't matter as most search engine pretty much ignore the keywords meta tag. I use commas.

I agree with cbp. It carries little weight with major SE's, but commas are your best bet.

You may notice when looking at source code for big companies who dominate some searches, if they use keyword tags, they use commas.
