Default Building Yoddle Exact Search

Ok, I have joined this forum for constructive help building my site Yoddle Exact Search.

It seems to me that some people are experts at search engines. My goal is to build a site where everyone gets a fair shake at site promotion and the researcher that visits my site looking for something is presented with information that they are looking for.
I first decided that I wanted to start a project like this back when flash was first introduced. Ofcourse we all know how hard it is to promote a flash site. I have read here on these forums that this problem is about to change soon since Macromedia has developed some way of changing all that.
Anyway, I started to ask questions about what people liked and disliked about searching. The biggest complaint was to many results. Followed by results given them had nothing in commen with what they were looking for or that if they did visit a site again it had nothing to do with what they wanted. The list goes on. As for people who own information or have been placed in charge of getting the information out to the rest of the world. They have a whole set of different problems. Like fighting with DMOZ, getting top rankings at the big guys, etc.
That brings me to here and now.
I ask for your help. First, I would like to note what I have gotten done so far. Then I would like for you to help me decide if I am wasting my time.
Yoddle is xml based.
So far on yoddle I have decided not to spider websites. Instead, I have given the power of description to the submitter. The submitter can use any media at thier disposal, text, audio, video, html, etc. I felt that the ability for a submitter to use all sorts of media would bring everyone into the new age of interneting and compliment the ever growing high speed users. The description fields can also be uploaded. This means that you could build your promotional material on your computer then when you are ready you could upload it. The submitter can choose thier keywords for the submitted descriptions. The submitter can choose catagories for thier submission. I am not sure if I should limit the number of keywords and or the number of catagories. What do you think? I have yoddle set up so that any submission that represents a live location it could be found by doing a location search. You know like those yellow page sites- Find within 10 mile from my zip etc.
As for the ranking process.
Well I thought that power should be know great secret. That power in my opinion should be in the hands of those who do the searching. I added the ability for searchers to make comments on submissions as well as make comments on comments. Also, I implimented a 10 star rating system. Again powered by the searcher. So...my thought is if you are good a presenting your information and your information is relevent to what you are promoting. Your ranking will show the results. Now I am sure that if Yoddle ever got real popular I would have to fight spammers and all. But, I still believe the ranking power should be with the people. Maybe you have some ideas about this subject. Well, I have run out of gas for one day. I am looking forward to all of your comments. Help me build the best search/promotion site. By the way, YODDLE is not a real word. It is just something that I came up with. It represents Your Open Data Driven Listing Engine.
Nobody knows about my site but I can say this much. The Google meister picks up every little thing that I have put inside in the past versions and tests. This may be to the xml. So if nothing else, if you would like to help me test things out your welcome to submit information and get some free advertising.

Sincerly,
J. Fitzgerald Flood

Default Having Trouble

I am having trouble trying to get my locator script to work with Yoddle Exact Search. My question is if you were searching. Would it be enough to just tie your site information to a zipcode only. Currently, I am trying to use Country,State.Province, and zipcode. Your answers would be of great help.

Default Pick your own keywords and phrases

I have read alot of posts about this subject here. We have made yoddle so that you can choose or create your own keyword or phrases for your site information. I hope that this will be helpful to all.
