Default Measuring Conversion Rates

First, I would like to say thanks to everyone for being so helpful with my SEO questions. What a great resource!
And now another question for all you SEO Guru's:
What is the industry standard for measuring "conversion rates". Would you rate a conversion by the unique visitors, visits, or website hits?

Joelt,
There is no standard conversion rates. Those who say there is are usually trying to sell you something.

It depends on what your goals are. If you are selling products, then obviously you would base it on sales. If you want to sell ad space, then you might base it on unique visitors. If you just want more of everything then you might go by hits.

For our websites, we go by visitors, hits, and time spent on site.
