Just from looking at empirical evidence, I'm not sure how important links are for pange rank relative to other factors. How do you interpret the following?
If you check the page rank of the Austrian state-owned TV station - www.orf.at, you will see it has a PR7. However, if you count the backlinks to that website, you get to no more than 24. It's a very informative website, no doubt about it, but how do 24 backlinks get you that PR? Other question - www.speeddater.co.uk has more than 2,000 backlinks and does EXTREMELY well in google rankings (PR7 and always first result for speeddating in UK and very high rankings also from US servers). From browsing the first couple of pages of backlinks, it seems like the vast, vast majority comes from www.visualbuilder.com. But when you go to the pages that allegeldy contain the backlinks, the link doesn't show up. Why is that? Larry |

I can find a few thousand links to www.orf.at - PR is based purely on links. I assume you have made the mistake of looking only at the sample of backlinks Google shows for a site. What Google chosse to show has no relationship to what they use to calculate PR.

Can you expand on this, how do I see all the results, rather than the 'sample'. Chris |
