ODP seems so important, but I just can't seem to get my site listed. I submitted back in May, but haven't been listed yet. I submitted a couple of times, but after the first, I received an email saying that I have already submitted. In their terms it says that it might take 2 weeks to several months to be listed on their partner sites, but it doesn't say how long (approximately) it will take to be listed with them. Anyone have personal experience they can share? I just submitted again today, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
If I was rejected for some reason, I didn't receive anything telling me why? Does anyone know how I can find out if I was rejected? |

Americana,
The first thing to know is that dmoz maintains a forum in which you can post and they can (and usually do so in a very reasonable amount of time) respond. http://www.resource-zone.com . In this forum, you can post a query as to the status of any submission. But, to be honest, you should probably check whether or not there is an editor for the subject in the index to which you've submitted. I've found many a person who is in the queue awaiting review for >6months. Anyone else have a better benchmark? Anyway, they're good people, doing the best they can, so don't go postal on them ;) Cheers, mark |

>I submitted a couple of times
>I just submitted again today BIG MISTAKE Every time you resubmit, you usually just overwrite the previous one with the new date. If editors sort the suggestion pool by date (most do), you put yourself at the back of the queue. You have been putting yourself at a big disadvantage every time you have submitted. It takes anywhere from a few hours to a few years to get listed. You do not get notified if accepted or rejected. Your site has not been rejected. It just has not been reviewed yet. The standard advice to get listed in DMOZ/ODP has been given many times: a) Have a site that really would add value to the category you want to submit to. Make the content good and unique. (lack of unique content that adds to the category is the most common reason a site is not listed) b) Write a guideline compliant title and description (I go straight to these and usually list them quicker) c) Submit ONCE to the ONE best category d) After a month, check at www.resource-zone.com (follow the forum rules) to see status (tech problems do happen occasionaly) e) Forget about it as there is nothing more you can do. Shoot - I can't believe that I just overwrote my previous submission... I guess this one I'm learning the hard way :(
Thanks for reminding me of the forum... I will check there. Mark, don't worry, I haven't gone postal... yet... but I may be on my way... |
