Default Accuracy of Google Toolbar

I am writing to see if anyone could shed a little light on something I noticed looking at backlinks.

When visiting a page the Google toolbar shows it as a PR5. However, when I use a different Page Rank lookup utility, It shows it as a PR2 for the same page.

I was wondering if this is common?

Thanks,
Ted

Default

1. PR has not been updated on the toolbar for 2 months
2. The toolbar PR is what Google choose to show us and may not bear any relationship to what they use internally (PR is actually on a log scale)
3. Sometimes the PR is different for a site if you visit is with and without the www in the url or with or without the /index.htm (or whatever) attached - this is usually a temp prob and Google fix it eventually.

Default Thanks cbp

Thanks for the input CBP.

I've actually read a lot of posts with your responses and appreciate the active role you take here.

It also seems you are involved with DMOZ. Do you have any tips on how to please the gods at DMOZ? :>)

Three options:
1) Put a shrine up on an east facing wall at sunrise - light a candle and worship at the shrine 3x a day .... also it apparently helps your site if you put a Google one next to the DMOZ one as well :-)

2)
a) Have a site that really would add value to the category you want to submit to. Make the content good and unique.
b) Write a guideline compliant title and description
c) Submit ONCE to the ONE best category
d) After a month, check at www.resource-zone.com (follow the forum rules) to see status (tech problems do happen occasionaly)
e) Forget about it as there is nothing more you can do.

3) Become an editor and become part of the solution.

Default The Shrine It Is!

Once my shrine is completed I will forward a URL with a pic. Any suggested building materials?

Would it be cheating if I used three candles and only spoke to the DMOZ gods in humble prayer once a day?

I wish not to anger thy DMOZ gods. :>)

Your "different page rank utility" showed the lower PR right? Because it was omitting the subdomain.
