I hope I have put this in the right area.
As the topic states I was contacted by a SEO Company today. (who will remain nameless) I am curious tho and have a few questions regarding what they say they can do for me and is it good or not. 1) The first thing they stressed to me was to submit more. Infact they said I should be submitting to the major search engines at about 2 times a month or I wont get indexed. - I have learned many things from Web Pro World and I am pretty sure I have read some where that there is no need to submit that much and it can actually be bad for you. 2) Link Popularity - On top of the main submissions they would submit us too aprox 8,500 other search engines 2 times a month to build up links and such. This way we will seem more important to the main search engines. - Is this practical at all? I mean back links are great but is this really worth what they are attempting to sell me? 3) D.I.P (Directory Information Pages). Which they will create 10 or so for our company. The purpose is when the spiders index these D.I.P sites it will redirect them to our main site. Which will then boost the amount of times our site is index again. - hmm sounds alot like a Doorway/gateway page. I was under the impression that these were frowned upon. Making up separate sites and basically optimizing them only for spiders so that they would redirect to your main page. 4) Too many characters in your Key word meta tag. If you have too many then the spiders cant handle it and then they will ignore your site since they cant take in all the information and leave. They suggested only aprox 280 total characters. - Now, I know some search engines take different things into consideration. Some search engines care and others not so much. We have aprox 480 characters in our key words. Is it really that problematic towards Google and other major search engines? This is basically the gist of what they offer. We have never been contacted by a SEO company before, however we were thinking about maybe looking into hiring one. So, I was hoping with a little help from the great people on this forum that you could tell us if this company was on the level or not? Thanks for your time and responses.
