Default Is it true to say....

Is it true to say that the cache version of a page from Goole or Yahoo is the page that is used to calculate search engine position notwithstanding all other factors (IBL's etc)?

No, it's not. The cached spider/bot is different than the other bots that see a page and rank it. It's quite possible that someone updates their page very often and what you see in the cache is not what has been used to rank.

Bhartzer,

many thanks for your reply. The reason I've asked is because the Yahoo cache version of my pages is so old it's not funny. Also when I do a site:mysite check the page description returned is old too.

Default I've noticed that too.

The screenshot Alexa has for my company's home page is ancient. Thanks for the question & answer, I had wondered about that.
