Frames and SEO aren't a good combination.

so that should i do then? can i just concentrate on the main "index.html" page to optimize it? since that page doesn't have frames. will this be enough?

btw, SEO mean search engine optimization right?

If you want lots of traffic, one page is never enough. Why not dump the frames?

the website consists of hundreds of pages, it would be very hard to re-do everything now.

If you keep the frames, about the only thing you can do is do the best SEO you can on the homepage and work on getting a lot of inbound links, varying the link anchor text after every 25 links or so to target a variety of keywords.

But be aware that while lots of links with good link anchor text do wonders for rankings in the SERPS right now, all it would take is a simple change to the algorithm to change that.
