Default Keyword tool

The best tool by far is provided by Overture. You type in the keyword (s) you would like to optimize for your site and Overture tells you how many searches were done for that keyword in the previous month as well as similar keywords and phrases.

Choose some of the keywords from the list based on the number of searches that were done (obviously you will not choose keywords which had few searches as few searches means little traffic) and do a search for them in Google.

Look at the number of results and you will know how much competition you are facing for the keywords. Based on that information you can determine for yourself which keywords would be best for you to optimize your site for.

Make sure that you are not depending solely on your keyword meta tags for high Google keyword ranking, but also on the relevancy of your keywords to the content of your site.

Hope this helps.
