Default Site ban

Just as a pure matter of interest, do sites that have been banned still get crawled and indexed in the background, so to speak? This would mean that any changes made during a ban would be available immediately the ban was lifted. Or do they get flagged and avoided?

Yes, they generally still get crawled. If they are PR0'd then they may not get crawled as much. But, if the site still has a decent PR then it will get crawled as usual.
