Default Future of SEO

I have been in this field since last 2 yrs and i really want to know that what will be the future of SEO's.
No doubt internet is growing like anything so that the need of web promotion but my main concern is for those individuals who are working as a SEO for IT firms. Only small company or mid size company require SEO because they need business from there websites but as far as Big company is concerned like microsoft , Oracle , Peoplesoft etc.. .they do not employ SEO'S beacuse simply they dont require web promotion. So how can one grow in this field if this field is simply restricted up to small companys. One way out is open your small company but what for those who want to work with BIG IT Companies. I know somewhere I am worng in my thoughts but expect sincere advice from all of you.

Regards
Sam

Well first only about 1% of all companies current use SEO services.

While I'm not sure of stats in the USA, in Canada there are 936,000 registered businesses, about 65% are considered "small" and about 33% are medium that leaves about 2% at large...

The USA cannot be too far off that... so why worry about 2% when only 1% of the other (likely) 98% are not being serviced.

Default Ultimately, I think SEO is game you can't win

Every time you get your pages tuned the rules change. It is if you are playing a game of chess, checkmate your opponent, and then Kings can suddenly move more then one space and your going duh.
I think the major search engine companies have way too much power, but the bulk of the small search engines are not worth the bandwidth they take up.
I have moved in a totally different direction, looking for ways to combine dirt world and virtual world stuff. T-shirts, hats, business cards, flyers, banners, newspapers, coffee mugs, pens, in addition to link exchange, banner exchange, article submissions, email and if have time left over, I might alter a pages text for SEO.
I have considered the possibility of hiring an SEO person to tune my pages, but again, once it is all figured out, suddenly the rules will change.
You have to think outside the box, you are interested in traffic, so figure out ways to drive traffic to your site, and provide them with quality information when they get there. Customer loyalty is much more important then SEO, of course, this is just my opinion.
