I recently worked on the meta-tags on all the pages in our website www.empirescreen.com. Should I resubmit the site to all of the search engines or just wait for the spiders to find it? I thought that resubmitting helped ranking, but I have read on the boards some people think it doesn't help.

No need to re submit.
Once you're in the SE's index, the bots will come to your site on a regular basis. You should check your server log files to see how often. The thing that takes a bit of time is for the SE's to update their index of your site. Nothing you can do to speed that up. Patience |

After a search engine crawls and indexes your site, there is no need to submit to that engine again.
Assuming that your site has a bot-friendly linking structure, your pages will be re-crawled periodically and any changes will be found automatically.
