Hi guys,

Can you guys take a look at this site.

http://www.pitmanskills.com

I just wanna know a few things from you experts,

-Why do the dynamic pages not get referenced by google? i.e. doesnt show P.R. bar for course search pages.

-Which pages do i want to be optimizing, and what keywords should i be using?

-What do you think of the look and feel?

We are a Secretarial And Clerical Skills Training company specializing in self paced I.T. and Business courses.

Thanks, Chris.

Well, I could probably answer all of your questions, but that would take all of the fun out of it for you. But, I will get you going in the right direction.

Here are some tools that will help you with the answers that you are looking for. The pages that you want to optomize would be one page for each 1 or 2 keyword phrases that you are trying to rank for. Are the links in the center columns going to go to pages from the home page, Im assuming that they are, but just making sure, otherwise I like the look of it. Very clean and easy to get where you are going. Most of the dynamic pages are indexed by google. You can check this by useing the search in google site:pitmanskills.com, you will see that a lot of them are indexed. They might not get good page rank because they are a couple of clicks away from the homepage, so there is page rank drain before you ever get to those pages.

Here is a tool to research keywords. Start with something that you know that you want to target, and go from there.

And another one at
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/key...rch-tool.shtml

Here is a tool, free trial that will measure how competitive the search terms that you think you are going to target.
http://www.wordtracker.com/
site is currently down, but Im sure it will up some time today.

Hope this helps.

Default More on PR

Thanks, ive been playing around with tools like this for a while, but these do seem a little more helpfull than some out there.

One thing though, i have kind of read into googles PR and if im reading it right would it be a good idea to make some of my pages such as 'contact us' etc not get referenced by google (i.e. using javascript links) as these would lower the average PR of my other more important pages. Is there a PR calculator tool anywhere where i can input my site structure and get an optimized structure for the pages i want to have the highest PR in the site?

HI Chris,
I find 142 broken links on your site, with almost all of them being 404 or 500 errors.

IMO this is not the kind of site that Googlebot is going to spend a lot of time spidering.

I suggest that you do a google search for Xenu Link Sleuth, download a free copy and spider your site so you can fix the broken links before you worry about anything else.

Good point I didn't even look into that. I assumed that the site was still under construnction. I let google indes every page on my site, because that page in turn boosts the rank of all the pages it links to. When using a common left hand navigation or equivalent, the Page Rank Gets spread around well.

Go with the one Mel suggested. Just do a search for Xenu link check on google and you should find it. It is a downloaded program. For a cool web based program try. www.poisontooth.com/linkcheck/
