Default Which Tools for SEO?

I would like to ask here, which tool would you experts advice me to use or buy for SEO.

I am currently working with:

IBP (Internet Business Promoter) http://www.axandra.com

WebCeo http://www.webceo.com

and the online tool:

SEO Doctor http://www.instantposition.com/free_tools.cfm

I ask here, while I met a lot of contradictions!

I am mainly concerned for Google.

Thanks in advance for your kind support!

While not an expert, I'll throw in my suggestions. I love open source and free tools. I hate to pay for anything.

I use a lot of the instantposition tools you mentioned.

I also use the tools at http://www.searchengineworld.com/misc/tools.htm

I have one on my site (which I think is pretty cool) at http://www.divergentlines.com/resour...pment_tool.php it uses Google to find relevant link exchange partners.

I also use a tool called Good Keywords. It's a free program that shows several diffrent SE keyword searches (similar to Overtures KW suggestion tool). It queries Ov, OvUK, Lycos, Teoma, and others. You can get it here

I never use the tools that query SE's with my domain. There is some evidence to suggest that the SE's are starting to clue-in to the fact that people are using these tools to avoid going to their sites (bypassing their advertising $) and are penalizing domains that are searched with these tools. Though I imagine this could be abused by competitors, too, so who knows... I just go with "better safe than sorry" in this case.

I'm curious to see what tools others are using, too.

I do SEO and a Marketing Specialist for a large web design firm. I find that there are a lot of great FREE resources out there and I've found some great ones. Here is the list of free tools I use on a regular basis, from developing a site to SEO stuff:

http://www.gorank.com/seotools/
http://www.searchengineworld.com/cgi-bin/kwda.cgi
http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/default.htm
http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ac/index.jhtml
http://www.langreiter.com/exec/yahoo-vs-google.html
http://www.yahoo-watch.org/cgi-bin/proxy.htm
http://rankwhere.com/google-page-rank.php
http://googlerankings.com/
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/
http://ranking.thumbshots.com/
http://www.seo-guy.com/seo-tools/google-pr.php

Some of these will come and handy and some won't. I'll let you be the judge of how you can benefit from the tools listed. I hope you can use the tools!

The best tool is Google itself! But I also like Overture's term suggestion tool. I also rely on Teoma's "resources" list for each search term.

Default Recommendations

Keep in mind this is only my personal opinion, but we had subscribed to WebCEO and at first it seemed very useful. But, then we had repeated problems with the program. The database continued to crash,we would lose our entire db history. Also it duplicates reports and has a lot of general glitches. Unfortunately it became more of a burden than a tool. The company is great, the people were very helpful, but the program just wasn't what we needed. Also, we have looked into a lot of different online tools, seodoctor being one of them. We found that although it is a very pretty tool, that it is often "way out to lunch." We ran the tool on sites that we found on the web that were doing very poorly and seodoctor rated them highly. In reverse, we ran the tool on sites of ours that were performing very well and it rated them poorly... go figure!

Tools that I would recommend are digitalpoint for kw rankings (free). Also webjectives has a fairly good kw density checker.

I have a question of my own also.... Does anyone know anything about the AddWeb Website Promoter 7.0??? I've been looking into this one, has anyone had any experience with it??? Thanks!

I agree there has been a good selection of interesting SEO tools. Some I hadn't seen before.

I didn't see anyone post a good search engine simulator yet. We have one on our site that works really good and its free. It shows you what information the search engine spiders extract from your website when they visit.

Enjoy!

I would advise against any 'tools' for SEO'ing. So does Google! IMO the single best way is to keep up with the latest news/rumours/conspiracies etc yourself. Or, hire a fair priced reputable professional.

I doubt there is any 'silver bullet' out there that will get your site pages earning you $$. Remember, don't confuse site traffic with $$

There is a certain logic here.

If you are not going to invest a great deal of time in learning how to use tools, what to avoid, and what search engines "do not like"... Dave Hawley is quite correct... avoid all tools as in all likelihood their use and unintentional abuse will jeopardize any promotional attempt.

SEO Tools aid a knowledgable person in being "more effective" by being "more efficient" in attempting to answer a complex equation:

[Website Merits - Website Disadvantage] vs. [Industry Competitiveness + Market Habits] + Implementation Schedule = Better Ranks

In the hands of a less knowledgeable person they can be useless to completely dangerous.

Thank you for this thread. I am new to the world of SEO (that's why I started out searching for SEO software packages and found this thread). Unfortunately I can't give you much in the way of thorough software analysis, however, I can share with you some "valuable" information. Here's a message WebCEO guys sent me after I downloaded and installed their program:

Quote:
The deal I've brought to you has to do with the release of the new version
5. We decided to observe this holiday sacred to any software company and let
you enjoy it as well by offering a huge discount off the SmallBiz and Pro
editions. Order one BEFORE next Saturday, August 7 and get:

- Web CEO SmallBiz for as little as $189 (36% or $106 off the regular price
of $295.00)
- Or go Professional for just $295 (41% or $200 off the regular price of
$495.00)

All you have to do is to run Web CEO, press 'Account' in the main menu, and
then fill out your details. Your next step is to press 'Optional code' and
enter the code: CELEBRATINGV5. (Please keep it secret and do not pass it to
friends or spread in forums). On pressing 'OK' you will see the discounted
price. Go ahead and in 30 seconds you will be a happy owner of the
full-featured edition of your choice.
I don't know... That's still too much for me :(

Default Too much to pay

Hi Howard

Most of our tools are free with one exception - the SEO Doc - it's only 14.95 and a nice tool if you are just getting into SEO - it will never replace but the human eye - but then again what will?

check out http://www.instantposition.com/seodoctor/\

Hope I don't get banned for this one by Webnauts

Tools I find useful that have not already been mentioned are:

Page size tester -> http://www.wpdfd.com/restest.htm

Lynx viewer -> http://www.delorie.com/web/lynxview.html
(a great way to see how a SE will see your site)

Color blind emulator -> http://www.vischeck.com/
(what your site looks to with someone who is color blind)
