Default Jeeves Returns

Ask have reinvented Jeeves and in the UK nightly adverts are going out with the once famous Butler inviting you to search. www.askjeeves.co.uk

Anywhere else???

There is no mention of Jeeves in the US version: Ask.com Search Engine - Better Web Search

Edit: It's hidden, but you can get the same thing in the use with different parameters: <never mind>
Edit2: Ok, its really wierd. Now that I've seen Jeeves, I can't get back to the normal version without clearing my cookies. NOOOO!... wait... I don't use ask anyway... never mind.

Edit3: Ok, it seems that if you type in askjeeves.com it takes you to Ask, but permanently puts ask into Jeeves mode, with no obvious way to go back to normal ask without clearing your cookies.

With Opera I had no problems. But in the UK he was hugely popular, especially as unlike the other SE's they actually advertise.

Could it be because it has a butler as mascot?

I actually like ask and would actually go there more if it had a greater market share. always makes you wonder how ask gets so little, msn more, google the greatest share. I have not seen any advertisements for ask/askjeeves.....

Interesting... Ask has done a lot of TV advertising over the past few years. This year they have opted to sponsor NASCAR's Bobby Labonte.

im going to try ask out for the day i think, already im annoyed at the top adverts taking up so much space tho. i wonder what it would take from a search engine or for google to do wrong for so many people to change SE? I think im just so used to google to be honest

I've seen the TV ads, just not recently.

It's really interesting. I saw a lot interviews about Jeeves. This time he will make something new.

Odd.

I've just done a test, using both IE6 & FF3.0.8, both allowing & blocking all cookies, finding that I was able to move between ask.com & uk.ask.com with no problem.

However, once I'd visited askeeves.com, I couldn't get out of "jeeves" mode at ask.com regardless of cookies under FF; and, under IE6, ask.com now hangs!

Because Ask.com is more tainted that G. They are deleting more webpages than even G. Who wants to use a SE with so few webpages?

I came here to see if there was an Ask.com forum to search for info, but I don't see any. My pages indexed by them have gone from over 300, to 129, 109, 64, and as of today a pathetic 41. Any SE that does that doesn't deserve to be used because they are returning far fewer useful relevant results than any other SE.

I tried to create an account with them to see if that would give you any WMT console like G has, or any insider info for site owners, and even their login is screwed up. You can't create a new account on IE due to JS errors, and you can't in FF because nothing happens at all after clicking the "Next" button. Thinking the account may have been created anyway, I tried to login and get on both browsers "An error has occurred. Try again later".
